Bamboo Sheets vs. Microfiber: Which One Should You Choose?

When you’re picking bedsheets, you would be tempted to pick the ones with cute color schemes, bold stripes, or floral patterns. However, when it comes to comfort, you would want to go for a fabric that will be breathable, soft, and help you sleep better at night.

When it comes to different types of fabrics, cotton is the most popular choice. However, bamboo bed sheets have been gaining some traction lately, and microfiber sheets are loved for their affordable prices.

Let’s go over how bamboo bed sheets and microfiber sheets compare and which ones you should pick.

Durability

Everyone knows microfiber sheets are well-known for their durability. However, bamboo sheets tend to last longer because they have long bamboo fiber, which is naturally stronger and also keeps the sheets looking new and fresh for a long.

Soft Touch

Bamboo sheets are also much softer because microfiber is a little bit rough and can be less comfortable. Bamboo sheets have a soft and luxurious feel to them. However, bamboo sheets are not as elastic as microfiber sheets, which is something people look for in their bedding.

Breathability and Comfort

Microfiber sheets are not recommended for those who suffer from night sweats or want a cooling bed sheet. Bamboo sheets are the more breathable fabric and will allow the moisture to either escape, or they will soak up the moisture, keeping the bed dry and cool all night long while you sleep.

Care and Maintenance

It is easy to care for both these sheets, and you can wash them in any washing machine and dry them in a dryer. However, microfiber sheets are much more resistant to wrinkles. Bamboo sheets wrinkle less, too, but they aren't engineered to resist wrinkles the way microfiber sheets are.

However, bamboo sheets stay looking new and fresh for ages as they resist pilling.

Environmental Impact

It’s obvious that bamboo fabric is made from bamboo grass, which is the fastest growing plant on our planet. Bamboo is also an eco-friendly and sustainable material used for bedding. Microfiber is not as sustainable as it is made from synthetic fibers and goes through a lot of engineering processes to make the fabric.

Which One Should You Choose?

It all depends on you, but bamboo sheets are a soft, durable fabric that will last  you a lot longer. Microfiber sheets are crisp and soft but not as durable, and the fabric is thin, leading to snagging. However, microfiber sheets are more affordable.

Organic bamboo sheets are a little costly but worth every penny because the fabric is antimicrobial and hypoallergenic. But be aware that bamboo wrinkles easily.

Thank you for explaining these facts between bamboo and microfiber without trying to sell me one or the other. It feels like a factual explanation vs. a sales pitch which is what I was looking for. You left out a comparison to 100% cotton with thread counts but I feel I got the microfiber and bamboo and I have personal experience with cotton so I’m grateful for information shared. I really need sheets and have only used 100% cotton so I’m familiar with all the ups and downs and chances you take when ordering cotton. If you get lucky and get the soft, smooth, and not too wrinkled cotton you have a great set of sheets but thread count doesn’t assure you those qualities. It’s the chance you take with cotton. I love cotton when it’s soft, smooth, not stiff and thick or heavy but it’s a total crap shoot and I can’t afford to play so perhaps you’ve explained enough that I’ll try a set of bamboo sheets although that is a rough sounding fiber. Again, I greatly appreciate the straight forward answer.
